Attempted Murder Suspect Arrested

Man Accused of Trying to Kill His Girlfriend

Brandon Nicholson, of Murray, Utah, was booked into Salt Lake County Jail on Thursday in connection with an investigation into Domestic Violence and Attempted Murder. Nicholson, and his girlfriend who lives with him got into an argument and Nicholson is alleged to have pushed, slapped and strangled her along with threatening her with her life. All of this took place while the couple’s 18-month-old child was in the same bedroom with them. This enhances the domestic violence charge to a domestic violence in the presence of a child.

Utah Violent Crimes Laws

Violent crimes are serious offenses and in Utah like the rest of the country, violent crimes are prosecuted very heavily. Furthermore, if a court becomes aware that a person is just generally violent, like they have multiple charges or separate violent offenses then they are more likely to impose maximum sentences to try and rehabilitate the individual and protect the public. Also with violent crimes the court feels some pressure to punish the individual because there is a victim of their crime, in crimes that are just general offenses against the public that pressure is absent.
